The film opens with stark footage of Liang’s own laser eye surgery, which leaves her with a lingering ‘halo’ distortion in her left eye. This ‘halo’ becomes both a symbol of impaired vision and an enigmatic marker of loss, subtly shifting the way we perceive the world around us. Through a striking range of sensory cues, ‘After Lasik’ meditates on how loss distorts our perception of the world and how healing may begin—if not in clarity, then in the subtle reorientation of our senses.
